Wassu Stone Circles

The next day we had booked in for a boat cruise from Kantur to Janjanburreh at 3pm, so we had to get up early to catch a gelli to Wassu and then walk to Kantur. We had to wait a little while for the ferry in the morning. Janjanburreh is on an island so the only way on and off is ferry (although a few weeks before the bridge opened on one side). The car ferry was slow so we caught the passenger ferry (a small very old boat). Luckily there was ackra (fried bean balls, which you have with salsa in tapalapa bread) on the other side so we grabbed some breakfast to start with.

When we got to Wassu we went to visit the stone circles which are absolutely amazing – the guide says they are no stone henge but they were placed in ancient African times – showing the organization African civilizations in the past must have had. It is theorized that they are burial stone circles. I found them amazing and well worth the trip.
