The animals of St Louis

The animals in St Louis fascinated me. As you can see some wanted to be my friend and some didn’t! The cow in the photo even tried to butt me, though it was tied to a tree.
There are goats and sheep roaming everywhere on the streets of St Louis. The rams had it hard as most of them were tied out the front of their owner’s house – though they were still in good nick – just a little hot for having to stand in the sun all day without water. I did wonder if it may have been a form of breeding control but I’d say it was to stop them fighting each other as there was so many. The cows and horses didn’t fare so well. Some of the horses dragging carts around with 8 people in them were so thin you could actually measure the circumference of each rib.
The amount of animals around was a testimony to the prosperity of the people, as the more wealthy the home, the more livestock you have. It is hard for me to believe that people in a city would keep animals in a concreted backyard, but it is a way of life here.
The most impressive animals I found by far were the cat that walked out of the kitchen in a nightclub that was in full swing – dropped on the floor and fell asleep! It was completely carefree of all the patrons who were stepping over it and the noisy band nearby. The other was the spotty goat who just had to be photographed!
